The "Memorias Curiel" and "Memorias
Senior": Two chronicles in Portuguese which, according to Dr. I.S. Emmanuel,
indisputably are the most precious documents on the island related to the
Jews of Curaçao.
It has 49 pages and covers the period
from 1716 to 1739. It was written by a son of Ephraim de Selomoh Curiel.
The "Memorias Senior" has 230 pages
and covers the period 1671 to 1857. It is a sort of index of the important
functionaries and officials of the Jewish Community and of decisions handed
down by them; also lists of marriages etc.
It was written by Jacob de David Senior
and continued by one of his sons.
Both "Memorias" were added to later, until
1941, by the late Jossy M.L. Maduro and also by S.A.L. (Mongui) Maduro.
(I.S. and S. Emmanuel: History of the
Jews of the Neth. Antilles, 1970. pages 781 and 1113).
